The Class of 2004

Wow,
Summer is here yo. I can't believe it! Can you? How about our seniors? We've had some great memories together. We honored them, I hope they felt honored, Sunday night with a reception and video presentation at our church and then had a little shindig at the Harris home complete with a live band. That's really a good thing too because dead bands have a tendency to stink! Anyway we love you guys and gals and wish you the best as you leave this congregation and minister to people wherever you choose to go. Feel free to leave our seniors a message here.

Workin at the Car Wash Whoa Whoa Whoa

A hundred cars! You must be joking right? Nope. It all started at the McDonalds on highway 45. We got there at 9 am and immediately saw a problem. The Caledonia AAU Baseball team was allready washing cars in our place. After some conversation with the manager we were off to the other McDonalds where we would be the only group washing cars. Then the madness began. Let me just say that Deborah and Jessica Pyle know how to stir up some business. Our hands were pruny and our bodies Puney by the time we threw the last sponge in the bucket. We had 80 done and needed 20 more. Luckily it was Robbie Clark to the rescue. He washed his familie's cars and even his dad's Big Rig. That's right. Robbie washed an 18 wheeler. Matt Chaffin, the Fergusons, Skyler, The Pyles and special guest Calvin McNabb all got great tans and even better burns. Thanks for the hard work guys. Are you going to Honduras? What do you think will be the best part of your trip?

The Big Band Theory

Robbie Clark Blew me away the other day when Jaden and I were privileged to hear him play in the Pickensville high band. They aren't a big band, but they have a big sound. I felt like I was in a movie taken from role to role as they played Pirate songs and sounds of the Serenghetti. That may be spelled wrong but you know what I mean. Robbie really is the coolest. If you think so too then let him know it by posting a comment or two here.

Prayer Requests

What better function for a blog than a place to post prayer request? I wish i'd have thought of it before. If you need prayers or know someone who does just mention it on the post and we'll begin praying for them. As your prayers are answered, include that as well. I'm excited about seeing God work through this board.

The Play is The Thing

Have you ever in your wildest dreams imagined Stephen Sanford in 50's garb singing a song calle bbbbbbbbbaby. Or how bout Skyler getting catty with society gals in the local soda joint "hippity Hop" and then singing in a group with two other girls. If you have, then your dreams came true this weekend. They both performed in their school play at Heritage and did an awesome job. Joanna west was also one of the singer gals that jumped and provided back up. Give them all a big hug and let them know they are great

The Railroad Festival

I don't know if you had a chance to go to the railroad festival or not. If you did, then maybe you got to see a few of us manning the TORCH booth there. We made fresh squeezed lemonade, corn dogs, popcorn, Boiled corn on the cob, and sold them all to raise money for our upcoming mission trip to Honduras. Even Jaden made a few glasses of lemonade for the good people of Amory. We were right beside all the bands and really enjoyed hearing them perform.

Question of the day

What is your favorite youth group memory?

Hammer Time

Several of you shared your spring break trips with each other and I hope you all had a great time! A few of us went to Tupelo over Spring break and built a storage facility at the Lee Acres Church of Christ. The morning started off really cold and I was reconsidering my shorts and t-shirt decision. There is nothing like 50 degree weather and 15 mph winds to motivate a half naked person to do some work. After a couple of hours everything got warmer and I began to feel a little smarter. We really enjoyed working with the Lee Acres youth group and made some great friendships. From nail guns to sawzalls to little dinky man hammers we used them all to build this monstrosity and raised over $2000 dollars towards TORCH Benevolence at the same time. Ask Matthew Chaffin and Tyler White what they did during their spring break and they'll be sure to share some stories with you. Maybe they'll tell you about lunch at Abners or the ladder they built themselves to take a picture of everyone on the roof. Maybe they might tell you about Kirt "monkeyboy Hunt" running around the frame of the building without the slightest fear of falling to his death. Just ask.

A Riddle For You

Here is something fun for you all I hope. See if you can find all the names and keep track of how long it takes you and let me know what you think of it. Enjoy

There are names of 16 books of the Bible mentioned in the paragraphs below; see how many you can find. [one minister found 15 books in 20 minutes; it took him three weeks to find the 16th one.]
"I once made a remark about the hidden books in the Bible. It was a lulu, kept people looking so hard for the facts, and for others it was a revelation, some were in a jam, especially since the names of the books were not capitalized. But the truth finally struck home to numbers of our readers. To others it was a real job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help find them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea so she can concentrate better. See how well you compete; realize now for there really are sixteen names of books in the Bible in this paragraph."
Try it! See how many of the sixteen names of the books of the Bible you can find [and keep track of how long you spend]. Which of you accepts this challenge?

Tuesdays Just For You

If you haven't been a part of our Tuesday night Bible studies in a while then you are really passing up a good thing. We meet every other Tuesday from 6-8pm. the first hour is spent in fellowship and general craziness while the second is spent in discussion and in the word. Our study is open to both guys and girls. If you don't fit into one of those two categories, then don't come. We have just finished studying Christian evidences and will begin studying angels, demons, and spiritual warfare on Tuesday, March 22nd. Billy has really created an interest with his sermons on the subject. No one has volunteered their home yet so if you'd like to offer up yours, then let me know.

The Bomb.
Nathan Allen and Krista sampled the bomb last night. Krista tried to make out like it wasn't that hot but when her face turned all red we knew she was burning. Nathan Allen just started tearing up from the start so he couldn't hide what he was feeling.
Don White did his best to down 5 crackers in under a minute and came close, but failed. you think it's easy? You try it.

It's official Jessica is a beauty

Jessica participated in the Beauty review at New Hope. She placed 4th out of 40 or so contestants. Way to go Jessica. Why aren't the guys doing anything cool? Oh yeah Nathan Allen was a beau in the review as well. He wore a tux with a pink shirt. I don't have a pic or I'd post that as well. Anyway congrats Jessica.

She blinded me with science

Make sure and congratulate Marion Morrow, Emily Chaffin, and Cheyene Slatton whenever you see them. They were all selected to bring their science fair projects to the state finals competition. You go girls! kinda hard to write that last thing and still feel manly. But I am extremely proud of my girls.

A Night At The U.S.O.

Jessica and Leah strike a poseThe U.S.O. Crew
The stars really came out for this one. Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Miss U.S.A., Mickey Mantle, Abbott and Costello, The Andrews Sisters, Phyllis Diller, and last but not least Bob Hope were all present for one last U.S.O. performance. The youth group really wanted to show our primetimers how much we appreciate their love and support. Mickey Mantle slid all over the place with his cleats. We did our best to look the part of these characters. Even to the point of putting vegetable oil in our hair to get the Bob Hope Slicked back look, or spraying more hairspray than is legally allowed to channel in a Phyllis Diller doo. We hope that our Prime timers ejoyed watching as much as we did performing. Thanks for the memories. If you'd like a character list, here you go:

Insight 05'

Master pLet me just say that Wiley Lowe is the man. If you don't like laughing till your stomache hurts, being uplifted, and convicted at the same time then I guess you might not have enjoyed Insight. Otherwise it was great! We (the guys) stayed in the same house as last year and enjoyed a pizza feast. Kip Long led our worship times and treated us to the smash hit music video, "Baby Got Book". If your interested in getting that video, you can download it from http://www.whiteboydj.com/babygotbook Man this video is hilarious. It was great getting to see all our friends from area churches and introducing them to the silver triangle of pain. Not to mention the bouncy games. We love sumo suits!!! Let me know what you all thought about it

Winterfest 05

Master and Commander

Winterfest 05' was nothing short of amazing! We loaded up at 9am on Friday morning on the charter bus and headed out after a prayer for safety. It didn't take long for "The Revolution" to begin. I'm not sure how it all ended but I think I was royalty. We were blessed to have the Lee Acres group with us. They were a bit over whelmed by the love Stephen lavished upon them at first, but they quickly got used to it. We then played a little mafia and bore witness to the most amazing supercop on the planet. He spoke out loud during the acusation stage and still remained incognito. After saving the townspeople from certain doom. It was movie time. Some watched, but most of us just used it for background noise as the craziness continued to escalate. Our bus driver proved to be quite the comedian. He kept the front in stitches the whole trip. We arrived in Gatlinburg and stepped off the bus into a balmy 38 degree evening. After unloading we ran to the convention center and saw one of the coolest stages ever. A whole ship, complete with t-shirt cannons, was on the stage! We enjoyed the night's message and then had a period of free time before coming together in room 133 for group devo. The singing was awesome. I still don't know how we didn't get loudness complaints. Kirt gave a great devo and then we spent the rest of the night dodging rat tails and foam balls. At least my room did. The guys hit the sack at about 3am and laughed as Matthew Chaffin performed sleep gymnastics. I also have it on a credible source that one of our girls enjoys clucking like a chicken in her spare time. Saturday started late for us. Our session didn't start until 1pm so we had plenty of time to consider buying firearms, battle axes, and tattoos. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and thos items remain under glass to this day. Then it was off to the arcade and a little shooting gallery action. We met and headed into the convention center with only a couple of late ones. Bean and Bailey "Superman" made us laugh and some of the Christian merchandice was a hit. Jeff Walling then presented one of the best messages on how to share the gospel with your friends that I have ever heard. Each of us recieved special Bibles with lesson outlines so that we could follow along. After some praise and prayer we were once again unleashed on the city of Gatlinburg. Some chose food others rest and the time flew by until we were gathering again for the night's worship. I wish you all could have heard the roar of 8000 teens screaming out, "satan was defeated." It was both deafening and powerful. Accapella performed and every guy was wishing they could stuff the bass singer in their trunk. Then we were blessed with another empowering message. We were set free and went right back to room 133 for another awesome time of devotion. John White surprised everyone by pulling out his guitar for our last song, "Happy Birthday". We all shared cake and went to our rooms for another meeting of the rat tails. Sunday morning after a hearty meal of Krispy Kremes we were part of the largest Church of Christ service in the world. 16,000 people. We had a powerful communion service and were given a great commision. $28,000 was given to support Honduran missions. After speaking with all the chaperones, it was decided than John White displayed the greatest leadership and he was awarded a brass spy glass. Everyone on the bus seemed to agree because he recieved a hearty applause. The ride home was more fun than the ride up. We all had inside jokes deeper friendships. After lunch and a short stop at the Worlds largest knife shop. Just kidding it isn't the world's largest knife shop. But seriously it is. We said goodbye to Bruce and Brandi and began the voyage home. Everyone had a great ride back except the unnamed nauseous one. We got home at ten and the trip seemed over quicker than it began. What will never end is the commitment several of us made to get back in step with our savior, and the songs that are still floating around in my head. Who knows what other good things are to come from this journey. Feel free to share any Winterfest stories with your friends. just click the link and start typing. i can't wait to see what you have to say.

Welcome to CYG Ministry!

We are excited to have a new avenue to share information with you. Take a look around and see what our youth group has been up to lately. You can add your own comments to most of our write ups so please do.
