A Night At The U.S.O.

Jessica and Leah strike a poseThe U.S.O. Crew
The stars really came out for this one. Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Miss U.S.A., Mickey Mantle, Abbott and Costello, The Andrews Sisters, Phyllis Diller, and last but not least Bob Hope were all present for one last U.S.O. performance. The youth group really wanted to show our primetimers how much we appreciate their love and support. Mickey Mantle slid all over the place with his cleats. We did our best to look the part of these characters. Even to the point of putting vegetable oil in our hair to get the Bob Hope Slicked back look, or spraying more hairspray than is legally allowed to channel in a Phyllis Diller doo. We hope that our Prime timers ejoyed watching as much as we did performing. Thanks for the memories. If you'd like a character list, here you go:

Insight 05'

Master pLet me just say that Wiley Lowe is the man. If you don't like laughing till your stomache hurts, being uplifted, and convicted at the same time then I guess you might not have enjoyed Insight. Otherwise it was great! We (the guys) stayed in the same house as last year and enjoyed a pizza feast. Kip Long led our worship times and treated us to the smash hit music video, "Baby Got Book". If your interested in getting that video, you can download it from http://www.whiteboydj.com/babygotbook Man this video is hilarious. It was great getting to see all our friends from area churches and introducing them to the silver triangle of pain. Not to mention the bouncy games. We love sumo suits!!! Let me know what you all thought about it

After last night's service, Tyler White was added to our family in baptism! Several of his immediate family and friends were there to witness his rebirth. We're very proud. Go Tyler!

Winterfest 05

Master and Commander

Winterfest 05' was nothing short of amazing! We loaded up at 9am on Friday morning on the charter bus and headed out after a prayer for safety. It didn't take long for "The Revolution" to begin. I'm not sure how it all ended but I think I was royalty. We were blessed to have the Lee Acres group with us. They were a bit over whelmed by the love Stephen lavished upon them at first, but they quickly got used to it. We then played a little mafia and bore witness to the most amazing supercop on the planet. He spoke out loud during the acusation stage and still remained incognito. After saving the townspeople from certain doom. It was movie time. Some watched, but most of us just used it for background noise as the craziness continued to escalate. Our bus driver proved to be quite the comedian. He kept the front in stitches the whole trip. We arrived in Gatlinburg and stepped off the bus into a balmy 38 degree evening. After unloading we ran to the convention center and saw one of the coolest stages ever. A whole ship, complete with t-shirt cannons, was on the stage! We enjoyed the night's message and then had a period of free time before coming together in room 133 for group devo. The singing was awesome. I still don't know how we didn't get loudness complaints. Kirt gave a great devo and then we spent the rest of the night dodging rat tails and foam balls. At least my room did. The guys hit the sack at about 3am and laughed as Matthew Chaffin performed sleep gymnastics. I also have it on a credible source that one of our girls enjoys clucking like a chicken in her spare time. Saturday started late for us. Our session didn't start until 1pm so we had plenty of time to consider buying firearms, battle axes, and tattoos. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and thos items remain under glass to this day. Then it was off to the arcade and a little shooting gallery action. We met and headed into the convention center with only a couple of late ones. Bean and Bailey "Superman" made us laugh and some of the Christian merchandice was a hit. Jeff Walling then presented one of the best messages on how to share the gospel with your friends that I have ever heard. Each of us recieved special Bibles with lesson outlines so that we could follow along. After some praise and prayer we were once again unleashed on the city of Gatlinburg. Some chose food others rest and the time flew by until we were gathering again for the night's worship. I wish you all could have heard the roar of 8000 teens screaming out, "satan was defeated." It was both deafening and powerful. Accapella performed and every guy was wishing they could stuff the bass singer in their trunk. Then we were blessed with another empowering message. We were set free and went right back to room 133 for another awesome time of devotion. John White surprised everyone by pulling out his guitar for our last song, "Happy Birthday". We all shared cake and went to our rooms for another meeting of the rat tails. Sunday morning after a hearty meal of Krispy Kremes we were part of the largest Church of Christ service in the world. 16,000 people. We had a powerful communion service and were given a great commision. $28,000 was given to support Honduran missions. After speaking with all the chaperones, it was decided than John White displayed the greatest leadership and he was awarded a brass spy glass. Everyone on the bus seemed to agree because he recieved a hearty applause. The ride home was more fun than the ride up. We all had inside jokes deeper friendships. After lunch and a short stop at the Worlds largest knife shop. Just kidding it isn't the world's largest knife shop. But seriously it is. We said goodbye to Bruce and Brandi and began the voyage home. Everyone had a great ride back except the unnamed nauseous one. We got home at ten and the trip seemed over quicker than it began. What will never end is the commitment several of us made to get back in step with our savior, and the songs that are still floating around in my head. Who knows what other good things are to come from this journey. Feel free to share any Winterfest stories with your friends. just click the link and start typing. i can't wait to see what you have to say.
